Air purifiers: room size and filter costs

Compare clean-air delivery, room-size assumptions and the cost of compatible replacement filters.

Three things to check

  • Check the fan speed and filter configuration behind CADR.
  • Use room-size claims with care when their air-change basis differs.
  • Confirm replacement filter prices and availability before buying.

Start with the room you will use it in, then check air delivery and replacement filters.

1. Compare air delivery, not just room-size claims

CADR means clean-air delivery rate, usually given in m³/h. Room-area claims can use different air-change assumptions. FÖRNUFTIG lists up to 120 m³/h with both filters; STARKVIND lists 240 with both or 270 with the particle filter alone. The Winix supplier table defaults to white WXAP800W and publishes 500 m³/h without a stated speed. We have not verified that figure for the blue WXAP800B offers; confirm the exact variant before comparing CADR. These are specifications, not our own performance tests.

2. Check controls and placement

FÖRNUFTIG uses manual speeds. STARKVIND and Winix offer automatic sensing. Leave the inlet and outlet clear and follow placement guidance. STARKVIND app control needs a separate hub.

3. Price the filters before buying

The IKEA replacement sets total A$35 and A$44. Winix’s GR pack is A$229 and was sold out at its supplier when checked on 13 October 2026. These are per-set prices, not yearly costs. Confirm compatible filters, stock and replacement instructions.

Portable filtration complements source control and ventilation; it does not remove every pollutant or solve the source of damp or mould.
